A leading global medical technology company required the renovation of an existing office building to create a refreshed, flexible workplace that could accommodate a new laboratory, open-plan office, private office and upgraded first-floor workspaces. LWS was appointed to provide a complete workplace solution, from initial space planning and interior works through to furniture supply and relocation services, ensuring the project was delivered within the agreed programme and budget.
The Challenge
The existing building needed to be reconfigured to better suit the client’s operational requirements and create a more effective working environment for its teams.
On the ground floor, the brief included the creation of a new laboratory, open-plan workspace and single office. Achieving the required layout meant carefully reconsidering the existing footprint, including the removal of existing stud walls and construction of new partitions.
Flexibility was also important. The client wanted access to a meeting space within the open-plan office without permanently committing valuable floor space to a fixed meeting room.
On the first floor, the existing offices required space planning and refurbishment to improve their appearance, functionality and overall working environment.
The project also involved coordinating the relocation of selected existing furniture and equipment to the new site, requiring careful planning alongside the refurbishment and fit-out programme.
Our Solution
LWS began by developing detailed space plans to establish the most effective use of the existing building and ensure each area supported the client’s requirements.
On the ground floor, we reconfigured the existing layout through the removal and construction of stud walls, creating dedicated spaces for the new laboratory, open-plan office and private office.
Within the open-plan workspace, we introduced a freestanding meeting pod to provide employees with an enclosed space for meetings, calls and focused conversations. Importantly, the pod can be relocated elsewhere within the building if requirements change, giving the client greater long-term flexibility.
On the first floor, we space planned the existing offices before completing a programme of refurbishment works, including new flooring and painting throughout to create a brighter and more consistent environment.
New office furniture was supplied across the scheme, including a mix of standard and height-adjustable desks to provide employees with greater choice and flexibility in how they work.
Our team also provided relocation services, coordinating the move of selected existing client items to the new site and integrating them into the completed workplace.

The completed renovation has transformed the existing building into a refreshed, practical and flexible workplace designed around the client’s current requirements while allowing for future change.
The new laboratory, open-plan workspace and private office provide clearly defined environments for different working needs, while the movable meeting pod adds valuable meeting space without the restrictions of a permanent built structure.
Upgraded first-floor offices, new flooring, fresh decoration and a carefully selected furniture package have given the wider workplace a consistent and professional finish.
